Old ferry terminal to become a covered market by next summer
£2.4m plan approved after 3,000 residents back the design. Twenty-six stalls, a rooftop garden and late openings on Fridays.
After two years of consultation, councillors voted unanimously last night to turn the derelict ferry terminal into a covered market. Work starts in January, with the first traders expected to open in time for the summer festival.
“It's the building everyone walks past and wonders about,” said market lead Joanne Pike. “Now it will be full of bakers, fishmongers and makers from the harbour.” Stall rents will be capped for the first two years to help small businesses.
